Kauser Zafar

A Pioneering Journey from Mirpur to Birmingham

We are incredibly honoured to welcome Kauser Zafar to our podcast, a woman whose journey beautifully illustrates the vibrant tapestry of Birmingham’s diverse communities. Kauser’s story begins in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, but her life truly took a pivotal turn in 1985 when she arrived in the UK.

Kauser’s migration was a significant moment, not just for her but for her family. She shares that she was the first girl in her family to arrive in the UK, securing her visa from Karachi to join her father and later, her paternal uncle, who were already settled here. This personal history offers a unique lens through which to understand the early experiences of many Mirpuri women who migrated to the UK, building new lives and contributing significantly to British society.

Kauser will share her firsthand account of settling in a new country, adapting to a different culture, and the invaluable role family played in her journey. Her insights promise a deeply personal and enriching conversation about migration, community, and belonging.
